Court Orders Rerun Of Election

The election tribunal, sitting in Magistrate Court Wuse Zone II in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has nullified the election of Bwari Area Council chairman, John Gabaya of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

Delivering the judgment, the chairman of the electoral tribunal, Muinat Folashade Oyekan, said the election was full of irregularities which violate the Electoral Law.

The tribunal therefore declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Haruna Shekwolo as winner of the election.

The People’s Democratic Party has finalised plans to inaugurate its presidential campaign council on Wednesday, September 28, regardless of the withdrawal of some party heavyweights and prominent campaign council members led by Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

The party revealed that all its programmes would be carried out as scheduled, adding that it had no plan to suspend them for any reason.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Debo Ologunagba, disclosed this to The Punch in Abuja on Thursday.

The party made this position known after a series of meetings by its leadership between Wednesday and Thursday, following the pullout of the Wike-led group.

ASUU Appeals Ruling, Says FG Has Declared War

The striking Academic Staff Union of Universities will on Friday (today) file an appeal against the ruling of the National Industrial Court which directed its members to resume work, The Punch Has Learnt.

Counsel for ASUU, Femi Falana (SAN), disclosed this in an interview with our correspondent in Abuja on Thursday.

ASUU has been on strike since February 14 to press home its demands for improved funding for universities and a review of salaries for lecturers, among other issues.

Justice Polycarp Hamman on Wednesday ordered the union’s members back to work.

I Will Ensure Unification Of Nigeria – Atiku

Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said he will ensure Nigeria is unified in 2023.

Atiku stated this on Thursday when he inaugurated a 10-lane 9.5 Kilometres road built by Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom.

Atiku who inaugurated the project in Uyo, as part of activities to mark the 35th anniversary of the State’s creation, said he is confident of PDP’s victory in 2023.

UK Will Not Interfere In Nigeria’s Elections – High Commissioner

The United Kingdom (UK) has assured Nigeria that it would not interfere in the forthcoming 2023 general election.

The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ms Catriona Laing, who made the commitment, said her country would rather remain neutral in the conduct of the poll.

She spoke in Birnin Kebbi, the Kebbi State capital during an interaction with journalists.
