NPF Clarifies On The Statement “No Nigerian Has the Right to Retaliate when Police Slaps You”

The Nigerian Police Force has said that the media mischievously blew out of proportion, an excerpt from it’s statement that “no Nigerian has the right to retaliate when Police slaps you”. Recall that the Police Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, had made this statement several hours ago, while reacting to a viral video of a man dragging a rifle with a policeman during a heated argument and suspicious molestation over his phone.

However, while urging well meaning members of the public to disregard the report, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in its more recent statement, explained that the excerpt was intended to create public awareness, that Nigerians should desist from taking laws into their hands and beating up police officers but should rather report unpleasant encounters to appropriate authorities.

CSP Adejobi said thus:

The current police administration is committed to ensuring that the rights of all citizens, uniformed or not, is protected across board. A single tweet in a thread was mischievously read out of context with a mischievous caption “No Nigerian Has the Right to Retaliate when Police Slaps You… “. The Force urges the Nigerian populace not to take laws into their hands whenever they have unpleasant encounters with police officers.”
