The result of the poll conducted and released by ANAP Foundation, on Thursday, saw the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi ranked first ahead of the three other prominent presidential candidates for the 2023 general election. The Opinion Poll has generated a mixed reaction from the camps of the other top presidential candidates.
According to a report on Premium Times Nigeria, the campaign council of the leading presidential candidates in the forthcoming election has dismissed the Opinion Poll and has disclosed that Peter Obi can only win the election on social media. In the percentage rating, Peter Obi took the lead with 21 percent. The presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress Party (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the presidential candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar both had 13 percent of the vote.
The presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso came fourth in the Opinion Poll. The Poll was said to have been conducted across the six geo-political zones in the country. According to the report, the researchers did not disclose the methodology and the number of people that participated in the poll. Speaking on a program on Channels Television, Politics Today, the spoke persons of the three other presidential candidates took turns to talk about the victory of Peter Obi in the Opinion Poll.
The spokesperson of the NNPP presidential campaign council, Abdulmumin Jubril disclosed that the program gives credence to the poll which should have been ignored. He disclosed that the NNPP will have the full votes of the Northern region and get the rest votes to win the election from other parts of the country. The statement from the NNPP spokesperson reads, “Let me say this, NOI poll projected that Jonathan would win the 2015 election but he lost, which included many other works NOI has done.
” There is no work that they have done, where you can say the projections are right or anything. Well, that is the extent that I will go on giving any recognition to the statement. It is false and not a representation of the reality on the ground, particularly if you are talking about the northern part. I have said this repeatedly, Rabiu Kwankaso has the northern part on lockdown, in a matter of three or four months, the fact will emerge.” He said.
He went on to describe Bola Tinubu as a good man who is in a bad party, he disclosed that Atiku Abubakar will pick a fair vote but will not win the election. On the other hand, he said the supporters of Peter Obi are divisive. The spokesperson of the PDP presidential campaign council also reacted to the Opinion Poll. Mr. Daniel Bwala disclosed that Peter Obi is currently enjoying the support of social media. He vowed to host a party, should Peter Obi win three states in the Southeast region considered to be his stronghold in the general election.
The statement of Mr. Daniel Bwala reads, “I know they said it is a random sampling. But then, because of the result, I am tempted to believe this poll was carried out online because Peter Obi has a measure of people who are very active for him online. This is much more than the other candidates, I will tell you why. There is an algorithm data analytics that was carried out that came up with the findings that 57.5% of people who follow Peter Obi and engage him on social media do not live in Nigeria.
“The majority of whom are bots on Twitter, not real human beings. If you take away 57.5% of people who are active for him, who probably live abroad and they do not have voters card they are likely not to come to vote, then what it means is that Peter is basking in the euphoria of hallucination, and this (poll) result is a true reflection of that.” He disclosed that his candidate, Atiku Abubakar is the only one accepted in the whole region of the country.
The spokesperson of the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential campaign council, Bayo Onanuga also reacted to the result. He said the poll which gave Peter Obi the lead was concocted and meant for the trash can. The short statement of the APC spokesperson reads, “If you look at it, the reason why you have to dismiss this is this, the NOI poll gives over candidate 18% in the Southwest that is our base. You don’t need to do any opinion poll to know that is the stronghold of our candidate.
“And they went to the Northeast and gave our candidate 18% again, whereas the same people gave Peter Obi 64% in the Southeast. You can see that there is no logic in this thing.” He said. The three spokespeople from the four top political parties heading into the election spoke differently about the poll and of course, they have to support both their parties and candidates. Do you think the poll can reflect victory for Peter Obi in the forthcoming election?
