Police disperse, teargas Obi’s supporters in Ebonyi

The Police in Ebonyi State on Saturday dispersed supporters of the OBI-dient movement who gathered at the Pastoral Centre, Abakaliki for the one-million-march for the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

Our correspondent, who was at the venue saw men of the Nigeria Police Force teargas Obi’s supporters, who numbered over 1,000.

The incident caused both human and vehicular traffic on the popular Old Enugu Road, in the capital city, on Saturday morning.

One of the supporters, Steve Ugama, said aside from dispersing and tear-gassing the supporters, about five of his colleagues have been arrested by the police.

32 Killed by 69 Road Crashes — FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps Sector Commander in Ekiti State, Olusola Joseph, has said that 32 persons were killed in 69 road crashes recorded in the state between January and mid-September, 2022.

Joseph, who blamed the accidents on speeding on the part of drivers of the vehicles and poor conditions of roads, called for safe driving and ensuring vehicles were in good condition including having good tires.

The corps commander, who spoke in an interview with Saturday PUNCH, said, “From January to date, by our records, we have 69 crashes in Ekiti State; out of this, 18 of them were fatal cases involving loss of lives.

Southern Kaduna Organisations constitute a leadership council

The leaders of key Southern Kaduna Organizations have announced the formation of a leadership council to coordinate their affairs.

In a statement on Friday, the Chairman of the council, Mr. Ishaya Akau, said the constitution of the Southern Kaduna Leadership Council followed widespread consultations over the affairs of the Southern Kaduna people. Akau explained that the purpose of the council was to foster interdependence and cooperation toward achieving the growth and development of the area.

He said the council comprised the Southern Kaduna People’s Union, Southern Kaduna Elders Consultative Forum, Forum of Southern Kaduna Professors, and Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Association. Others are Southern Kaduna Retired Military and Para-Military officers Association, Southern Kaduna Lawyers Forum, Southern Kaduna Autochthones Community Development Association, and Southern Kaduna Leaders Forum.

North Central APC cautions members against anti-party activities

The North Central Zonal Chairman of the ruling APC, Alhaji Mu’azu Bawa, has cautioned party members against indulging in anti-party activities as the 2023 general elections approach.

Bawa issued the caution on Friday in Jos at a one-day consultative/familiarization meeting with the APC hierarchy in Plateau to strengthen the party’s internal democracy.

The zonal chairman said the party developed a method of identifying and dealing with members who indulged in anti-Party activities.
